Europe’s First Ever Sustainable Hotel Has Popped Up in Ireland
A hotel which is powered by an underground river… that can’t exist! Or can it? Well one hotel has made this a reality. The Iveagh Gardens Hotel on Harcourt Street, Dublin is powered by an underground river 50 metres below the hotel! How this works is by the turbines converting power from the river Swan. The energy produced by these turbines will power the entire hotel and all of its energy outlets.
The turbine energy systems were designed and constructed by Eurotech Renewables, and Swedish firm Ochsner Warmepumpen, and this new system is set to turn the hospitality sector on its head!
All heating, cooling, plumbing and hot water systems have been replaced by this new natural system. Amazing right? The McGill Family, who are the owners of this hotel believe that this system will eradicate their wastage and carbon footprint.
The hotel cost £40 million after renovation and is the sister property of Dublin’s exclusive Harcourt Hotel.
When at this hotel, expect to be greeted with bold, block colours with contrasting tones and patterned detailing, and all fixtures, fittings and even the bar have been sourced locally from Ireland.
If you fancy a bite to eat, there is also a bistro which is beautifully vibrant and unique in design. Some of the hotel rooms, and eating and drinking areas overlook their spectacular gardens as well. So be sure to check this incredible hotel out when you travel to Dublin.
